egg drop challenge

All students are invited to take the Great “Green” Egg Drop Challenge!

The Egg Drop is a much-loved, school-wide event where all students gather to watch & cheer as student-made “egg drop contraptions” are tested by dropping them from the roof of the main school building. The afternoon event is parent-powered.

We invite all students to design and create a contraption that will protect a raw egg from a large fall. Egg Drop contraptions will be constructed at home, and brought to school with students to their respective yards on the morning of CASD, Fri May 10. Egg drop contraptions are 100% voluntary, but we highly encourage everyone to get in on the fun!

Egg Drop Schedule:

  • Grades K-1: 1:15 pm - 1:45 pm

  • Grades 2-3: 1:50 pm - 2:25 pm

  • Grades 4-5: 2:30 pm - 3:05 pm

Egg Drop Contraption Build Party

If your kid would like help building or brainstorming, join us for an Egg Drop Contraption Build Party on Sunday, May 5th, 10:30a-12p at Midtown!

Bring compostable supplies to share and we will scramble up some feats of engineering greatness, or at least enjoy each other's company while our kids crack out some ideas. Note: this is not a drop off activity, but a fun time for your whole flock.

egg drop rules

Check out the full Egg Drop Challenge rules with your student(s) to learn more about materials and size limitations. These rules will also come home in your child’s backpack the week of April 22.

Your student may need your help to access the short online Egg Drop Lab Report where they share their contraption ideas. Online reports are encouraged, but feel free to print out a hard copy.

how can i help?

CASD is a wonderful day where teachers, parents, and community come together for our kids and we can’t do it without you! Please consider lending us your help. There are all kinds of ways to help.

CASD workshop Help

When you volunteer, as a thank you, please partake in our morning breakfast and coffee (thank goodness!) as well as get a hot udon lunch!

Great Egg Drop Help

We are so excited to continue this long-standing, much-loved event, but we need many helping hands to make it happen! Running egg drop contraptions to the roof, or opening up dropped engineered marvels to see if the eggs are intact!

Udon Booth & supplies

All volunteers can take part in a light breakfast and delicious udon lunch!

The JBBP Udon team will be pouring around 200 bowls of soup - perhaps some SC friends would like to learn more about the udon operation with the amazing JBBP Udon team? It's a super fun crowd and a fun opportunity to work together!

If you cannot help on the day of, consider donating some food related items for our volunteers.

direct donation

You can also provide a direct donation to help us purchase them (we're reusing a cherry blossom link, so please just put 'CASD' in your donation note).

Not sure where to help, leave us a note and we'll find a good fit!
